Gestures
A gesture is a shape you draw with a mouse button held down. Input.Observer compares the shape with the gestures you saved and, when one matches, runs the action bound to it for the window you drew over.
Three things work together:
| Part | What it is | Where you set it up |
|---|---|---|
| Drawing | Which buttons draw, when a press becomes a gesture, and what happens to the original click | Drawing a gesture |
| The gesture library | The shapes themselves, each with one or more saved examples | The gesture library |
| Matching | How a drawn stroke is scored against the shapes, and how strict that is | How a stroke is matched |
A shape on its own does nothing. An action uses it through a gesture trigger, and the action belongs to an app group, so the same shape can do different things in different programs. Which action runs for a stroke is decided by the rules in Where actions apply.
- Drawing a gesture — Which buttons draw, how a capture starts and ends, and what happens to the original click.
- The gesture library — The Gestures page: adding, training, renaming and deleting gestures.
- How a stroke is matched — How a drawn stroke is scored against your gestures, the match threshold, and what no match does.
