Keyboard
Besides gestures, Input.Observer reacts to the keyboard in two ways, both of which run actions:
- Hotkeys: a key combination runs an action. A hotkey is a trigger on an action, added on the Actions page.
- Text expansion: a short piece of typed text is replaced with longer text, or runs an action.
Both follow the same app groups as gestures, but use the window in front instead of the window under the pointer (Scope and fallback).
Keys also shape gestures:
- Ignored modifier keys: hold one while you press the draw button to send a normal click instead of starting a gesture.
- Modifiers and timing: keys and mouse buttons held with a gesture choose between actions.
Touch and pen explains what happens with touch and pen input, which Input.Observer doesn't support directly.
- Hotkeys — Run an action from a key combination: choosing the keys, reserved and passive hotkeys, held keys, which action runs, and conflicts.
- Text expansion — Type a short abbreviation and have it replaced with longer text: how typed text is matched, what ends and clears it, the four replacement types, and the Settings tab.
- Ignored modifier keys — Hold a key while you press the draw button to send a normal click instead of drawing a gesture.
- Touch and pen — Input.Observer doesn't support touch or pen input directly; what reaches it is what Windows turns into mouse input.
