Pause, bypass and exit
Pause it
- Right-click the tray icon and choose Enabled ① to clear its check mark. A single left-click on the icon does the same.
- To turn it back on, choose Enabled again, or click the icon again.
While it is paused, the icon is gray and its tooltip reads i.o - disabled. Gestures and text expansion are off, and the right mouse button and your typing go straight to programs. Hotkeys that are reserved with Windows still take their keys, but do nothing. Input.Observer is always switched on again the next time it starts.
Skip it for one click
Hold Ctrl while you press the right mouse button. That press, the drag and the release go to the program as if Input.Observer weren't there. Release Ctrl when you are done.
Ctrl is the default. You can choose Ctrl, Shift, Alt or several of them under Ignored modifier keys on the General page. See Ignored modifier keys.
Stop a runaway action
Press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+F9. Every running action stops, even one that is stuck. So that nothing starts it again, Input.Observer then also switches off gestures, text expansion, hotkeys, script timers and folder watches, and shows a notification saying so. Hotkeys reserved with Windows stay reserved, so their keys still don't reach other programs, but they run nothing. The keys work even in the middle of a gesture or a macro recording.
To switch everything back on, right-click the tray icon and choose Reload Config ②.
The keys can be changed, or turned off, under Stop all actions hotkey on the General page. They must include Ctrl, Alt or Win, so ordinary typing can't set them off.
Safe Mode
Use Safe Mode when an action or script misbehaves as soon as Input.Observer starts.
- If Input.Observer is running, exit it (below).
- Hold Ctrl while you start Input.Observer, and keep holding it until a question appears.
- i.o - Safe Mode asks Start Input.Observer in Safe Mode? Choose Yes.
In Safe Mode there are no mouse or keyboard hooks, no hotkeys, no plugins, and none of your actions or Config loaded and Engine shutting down scripts run. You are still asked for your password and license as usual. The tray icon is gray, and its tooltip reads i.o - Safe Mode (restart to resume normal operation). The configuration window works, so you can fix the problem there. Safe Mode lasts until you exit and start Input.Observer again normally.
Exit
Right-click the tray icon and choose Exit ③.
- If the configuration window has unsaved changes, it asks first: Save or Discard changes. Input.Observer exits either way.
- The configuration window closes too.
- Windows that a script hid, or minimized to the tray, are shown again.
See The tray icon for every menu item.
