Clockwork

Start: A first brass gear settles on the press point and an escapement wheel starts ticking at the cursor with a glint.
Draw: Gears of several sizes spin up one after another along the path, each meshing with the last on alternating sides so neighbours turn opposite ways at their tooth ratio, over a fine brass chain, while the escapement ticks under its rocking anchor, rivets pop loose and puffs of steam escape.
Release: The mainspring runs down: the whole train slows and stops with a last tick and a little bounce, a puff of steam rises, and the movement fades.
