Privacy policy
The short version: the Input.Observer app sends nothing anywhere. This website has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. When you buy something, we keep what we need to deliver it, support you and keep our books, and nothing else.
Who is responsible
Robert Yapchanyk, 2219 Tomberlin Grove Ln, Plant City, FL 33566, USA, is responsible for your data ("we", "us"). Questions and requests: [email protected].
The app
Input.Observer collects no telemetry and sends no data to us or anyone else. It checks your license key on your computer, without contacting us. Your configuration, scripts and recordings stay on your computer. Information leaves your computer only when you choose to send it, for example by sharing a diagnostics export with us.
This website
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking cookies. Fonts, search and media are served from this website; your browser doesn't contact third parties while you browse.
- One cookie, only when you choose a language:
io_langremembers the language you picked, for one year. - Stored in your browser, never sent to us: your color theme and the styles in your cart.
- Hosting. The website runs on Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and protect against attacks, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We don't keep logs of visits. Our order service limits how often one IP address can call it; it counts requests without storing the address.
- Downloads of the installer come from the same Cloudflare service.
When you buy
Our reseller Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for every order. Paddle's checkout loads from Paddle's servers only when you click Buy or Check out, and collects your name, email address, payment details, country and address details under Paddle's privacy notice. We never see your payment details.
From Paddle we receive, and keep in our order database:
- your email address, and the email address your license is registered to, if different;
- what you bought, the amounts, currency, tax and Paddle's fee, and when;
- your preferred language, so your purchase email is in it;
- a one-way hash of your license key (not the key itself), and the purchase file for your styles.
To make your license key and sign your purchase file, our order service sends your registration email address to Amazon Web Services' key service, which computes the key's code and the file's signature without storing either. Your purchase email is sent through Amazon Web Services' email service.
Why: to deliver what you bought and support you afterwards (performing our contract with you), to keep financial records (a legal obligation), and to notice misuse of license keys, such as one key used to buy styles by many different people (our legitimate interest in preventing fraud).
Email
- Purchase emails are sent by Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES). If an email bounces permanently or you mark it as spam, we record the address so we don't email it again.
- Emails you send us at an
@input.observeraddress are forwarded to our mailbox by Cloudflare's email routing, and kept as correspondence.
The forum
The Input.Observer forum is GitHub Discussions, a service of GitHub, Inc. Your GitHub account and posts are covered by GitHub's privacy statement.
How long we keep data
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your license registration (email, the key's hash, the major version) and your purchase files | As long as we support the license |
| Order amounts, tax, fee and earnings | 7 years |
| Email addresses that bounced or complained | Until you ask us to delete them |
| Technical records of email notifications | 30 days |
Backups follow the same periods. If you ask us to delete your data, your license key keeps working (it is checked on your computer), but we can no longer resend it or your purchase file.
Who processes data for us
Paddle.com (orders and payments), Cloudflare (hosting, our order service and its database, email forwarding), Amazon Web Services (email delivery and key generation) and GitHub (the forum). Each acts under its own terms and data processing agreement. We don't sell or share your data with anyone else, and we don't use it for advertising.
Where data is processed
We are in the United States. We receive your data directly from you and from Paddle, and our order data is stored and processed in the United States by the providers above, which may also process it in other countries. Where these providers handle data from the EU or the UK, they protect it under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension, or under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses in their data processing agreements.
If you buy from mainland China: your personal data is provided to Robert Yapchanyk in the United States ([email protected]), for the purposes and of the kinds described under "When you buy", and kept for the periods above. You can exercise your rights with us as described under "Your rights". By completing a purchase, you consent to this transfer.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable format. Write to [email protected]; we answer within one month. If you're in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority. These rights apply wherever you live, including in US states with their own privacy laws. We don't sell personal data, share it for targeted advertising, or use it for profiling.
Children
Our website and store are not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we publish the new version here with its date.
This policy may be translated for your convenience. If a translation differs from the English text, the English text governs.
